Obituary for Thomas Alecca

Thomas Alecca, 83, of Hasbrouck Ave, Port Ewen, NY, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, September 8th, 2021.

He was born in Kingston, N.Y. on August 16th, 1938, a son of late Charles and Mary (Lent) Alecca.

Thomas was employed by Hudson Cement Plant as a Lab Technician for 18 years, Duplex Products for 17 years and Empire Business Forms in Newburgh for 9 years, until his retirement in August 2000.

He was a volunteer firefighter and life member of John N. Cordts Engine Company No. 8 in Kingston, and was a member of the Kingston Exempt Fireman's Association.

He coached the Town of Esopus Little League Baseball, was a lifelong fan of the NY Jets and NY Mets, and enjoyed the daily Morning Coffee Klatch with his Port Ewen friends at the Stewarts Shop in Port Ewen. Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren.

His proudest moment was being Guardian for his brother Charles Alecca on the 2018 Veterans Honor Flight.

Thomas is survived by wife of 57 years, Merle (Best) Alecca, children, Christopher (Geraldine Delanoy) Alecca of Port Ewen and Warren (Mellisa) Alecca of Kingston, and James Alecca of Port Ewen, one brother, Charles Alecca of Kingston, three sisters, Elizabeth Amundsen of Shelburne, Vermont, and Gloria Schatzel of Ulster Park, and Marie McHale, Waltham, Massachusetts, four grandchildren, Adrianna, Justin, Anthony and Nicholas Alecca, and one sister-in-law, Mary Alecca. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by two brothers, Michael Alecca (1996) and John Alecca (2015).

The family will receive friends at the Gilpatric-VanVliet Funeral Home, 339 Broadway, Ulster Park, on Wednesday, September 15th, 2021 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will held at 11:00 am on Thursday, September 16th, 2021 at St. Mary's Church, Kingston.

Burial at Riverview Cemetery, Port Ewen will be held privately.
