Royana Black Hubbell, formerly of Esopus, NY, passed away of AML (Acute Myeloid Lukemia) on July 14, 2020 in Los Angeles, Ca.

She was born on March 1, 1973, at St. Francis Hospital, Poughkeepsie, N.Y., the daughter of Gloria Black of Florida and the late Roy E. Black (2007).

Royana lived in Esopus, N.Y., attended Robert Graves Elementary School, John A. Coleman High School, and graduated from Yale University in 1994.

When Royana was 10 she played Laurie on Broadway in Neil Simon's "Brighton Beach Memoirs". For over a year and half she traveled to Los Angeles to play the leading role in "Raising Miranda" on CBS. She did many videos for the "Reading Rainbow." Royana worked with Paul Sorvino in "Almost Partners", "Stood Up" (an after school special), The Cosby Show, a Woody Allen movie, "Touched By An Angel", "Hold, Please", and "Medium", among others.

She was a member of AFTRA/SAG and Equity. While she lived in Los Angeles, she had her own Theater company where she directed and performed, and was Artistic Director and Chair of the Alliance Repertory Company, a non-profit theater company in Los Angeles.

She was also an administrative assistant at Houlihan Lokey, an investment firm.

Royana is survived by her husband of 11 years, John Paul Hubbell, of Los Angeles, California, her mother Gloria Black of Florida, and her brother, Robert J. Pereira Black of Kingston, N.Y.

Royana had an infectious smile and laugh which could light even the the darkest of days. She was a beautiful person inside and out. She was truly an angel on earth.
