Obituary for Richard W. (Ricky) Griggs III

Richard W. (Ricky) Griggs III
Richard W. "Ricky" Griggs III, 61, a former longtime resident of Schryver St, Port Ewen, passed away while in the comforting presence of his loving family, Saturday evening, January 27, 2018 at home in Kingston.

Ricky was born in Kingston, New York on October 5th, 1956, a son of the late Richard and June (Coniglio) Griggs.

A graduate of Kingston High School, he attended Marist College. Ricky retired in 2012 from the Ulster County Dept of Social Services, following 30 years of employment.

He was a board member of the Kingston YMCA, enjoyed music by The Eagles, and was a devoted fan of the NY Yankees and the sport of soccer. An avid fan of golf, he was a member of both The Twaafskill and Wiltwyck Golf Clubs.

He leaves behind his loving wife and caregiver, Christina J. (Hillje) Griggs, two sisters, Nancy Bruckner-Griggs, and her husband Steve, Lee Griggs, and a niece, Josephine Griggs, all of Kingston. Many cousins also survive.

Cremation will be held at Wiltwyck Crematory.

In following Ricky’s prearranged directions, he offers the following quote by H. L. Mencken:

“If, after I depart this vale, you ever remember me and have thought to please my ghost, forgive some sinner and wink your eye at some homely girl.”

A memorial visitation period will be held on Saturday, February 3rd, 2018, from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm at the Gilpatric-VanVliet Funeral Home, 339 Broadway, Ulster Park, Town of Esopus.

The memorial service will follow at 3:30 pm, Deacon Tim Dean (of Sacred Heart Church Esopus) will officiate.

In lieu of fresh flowers, the family suggests indoor plants for loved ones to take home and nurture in memory of Ricky, or a contribution in Ricky's memory to either:
