Obituary for Patricia Ann Bennett

Patricia Ann Bennett
Patricia Ann Bennett, 84, of Earlton, NY, previously of Delray Beach, Florida, died Wednesday, April 4th, 2018 at Golden Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born in New York City, NY on June 12th, 1933, a daughter of the late James and Mary (Garvey) Smith. She married the love of her life of 40 years, Richard "Dick" Bennett. Pat would always remark that Dick moved her from Oceanside, NY, nicknamed "Skunk's Misery", to Earlton, NY, known as "Jackass Hollow".

She began her career in the early seventies as a school bus driver for the Catskill School District and later transferred to the Cairo-Durham School District as the transportation supervisor. One of her notable students on her bus route was Mike Tyson. She was very proud of her accomplishment as a NYS Master Instructor for School Bus Operators.

Pat enjoyed her friends and family and telling funny stories. She was the activities director for Country Manors in Delray Beach. She loved to travel, having also visited Ireland, a trip she loved. She also enjoyed any party, any time, any place.

She is survived by one daughter, Patricia Kowatch, and her husband Ray, of Port Ewen, one son, Michael Bennett of Middleburgh, NY, two step-daughters, Merrilyn Karrels, and her husband Butch of Leesburg, Fla, and Paulette Glynn of Oceanside, California, one sister, Maureen Guzzo, and companion Bill, of Texas, brother--in-law, Louis Guzzo of Staten Island, NY, four grandchildren, Olivia and Josh Kowatch, and Dustin and Zach Bennett, cherished niece, Mary Guzzo-Nieto, and nephews, Louis Guzzo III and Jeffrey Guzzo. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

She is predeceased by her husband, Richard Bennett, a US veteran who died in 1998, and brother James Smith.

A service will be held 3:30 pm on Sunday, April 8th, 2018, at the Gilpatric-VanVliet Funeral Home, 339 Broadway, Ulster Park, Town of Esopus, the Rev. Eugene J. Grohe will officiate.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service on Sunday from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm.
