Obituary

Obituary for Nancy Exman

Nancy “scratch” Exman passed away on July 20, 2019, after a long fight with multiple myeloma and a brief stay at the North East Center in Lake Katrine, N.Y.; She would not let illness stop her from going anywhere she wanted to go. Always adventurous, Nancy would not stay put when she felt the need to move on.

With a love of animals and adventure, growing up on a farm with horses was a natural fit. Nancy got her own horse she named “Pepsi” when she was 11 years old. The rest of her life was dedicated to working with horses and travel.

Nancy drove west and her car broke down near Tulsa Oklahoma. She stayed for years there finding friends and work easily. She is remembered for her dedication to her work and to people (always generous, caring, and kind).

Nancy was fiercely independent and did not let anything or anyone hold her back. When she saw something needed to be done she took care of it. She helped other people any way she could freely. She was tough and always saw to others needs first.

The daughter of Frank Walker Exman and Ann VanWinkle Exman, Nancy was born in Hudson, N.Y. on March 4, 1961. Nancy grew up in Columbia County active in 4-H while attending Taconic Hills Central School and Graduating from Romulus Central School in Seneca County N.Y..

She is survived by her mother, Ann (Stone Ridge), her sisters: Kathleen Exman (Pagosa Springs, CO) , Helen Ernst (Atlanta, GA), Eva Foster(Kerhonkson, NY) and Amy Finkbiener (Stone Ridge, NY), brothers: Peter Exman (Palm Coast, FL), and Karl Hermance (HIgh Falls, NY) and is predeceased by her father, Frank (09/05/94) and brother, Jan (11/12/13).

A memorial service will held at 11:00 am on Friday, July 26, 2019 at the Reformed Church of The Comforter, 26 Wynkoop Place, Kingston, N.Y., 12401.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to:

I was a horse-crazy girl myself and when she was home visiting family, Nancy always had a good chat with me about horses. She was kind and enthusiastic and had a great smile. My condolences to her family-wonderful people who I shared many great childhood memories with. ❤
