Obituary for Kathy Schlanger

Kathy Schlanger, 60, of Ulster Landing Road, Kingston, passed away while in the comforting presence of her loving family, on Monday, February 1st, 2021 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, following complications from COVID.

She was born in Kingston, NY on September 20th, 1960, a daughter of the late John and Lillian (Mayone) Hughes.

Kathy was graduate of Kingston High School, and BOCES cosmetology, class of 1978. Following graduation, began employment with Adeline Ferraro's Hair Salon in Kingston for over six years. She then entered her second career in medical registration with the Kingston Hospital, where she remained for many years. Most recently, Kathy was employed with Pine Street Dental in Kingston as the Treatment Planning Coordinator. In her spare time, she would work as a switchboard operator for Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck.

She loved to travel, especially to Disney World and Myrtle Beach with her family. She enjoyed the slots in Atlantic City and was a wine enthusiast.

Kathy was selfless, always putting others before herself. She would light up a room and become instant friends with anyone she crossed paths with. She always told the best stories and could make a whole room erupt with laughter.

Kathy is survived by her husband of over 38 years, Michael T. Schlanger, her children, Meghan (Rob) Landerway of Lake Katrine, Jason (Krystal Jo) Schlanger of Lake Katrine, and Amber (Ben) Germain of Kingston, one brother, Barry (Jeanine) Hughes of Albany, NY, two sisters, Barbara A. (Charles) Lukaszewski of Kingston and Ellen Hughes of Kingston, and two grandsons, Robbie and Liam Landerway. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and God children also survive.

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her in-laws, Melvin and Teresa Schlanger.

The Schlanger family will receive friends during a walk-through visitation period at the Gilpatric-VanVliet Funeral Home, 339 Broadway Ulster Park, Town of Esopus, on Friday, February 5th, 2021 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Face coverings are required and social distancing will limit visitor capacity in the funeral home.

The service, officiated by the Rev. Louis Yaya, followed by entombment in the Wiltwyck Community Mausoleum, will be privately held.
