Obituary

Obituary for Katherine A. Finken

Katherine A. Finken, 67, of Saugerties, NY, died Friday, October 11, 2019. She passed away peacefully while in the comforting presence of her family at Albany Medical Center following a brief illness.

She was born in Kingston, NY on July 2, 1952, a daughter of the late Howard and Rose (Burke) Whittaker.

A homemaker, she enjoyed singing, dancing and spending time with her family. She loved cooking and baking, especially her all time favorite M&M cookies that her family always craved. She was known as a young at heart, free spirited, beautiful lady who seemed to never age.

Her favorite past time was spending time with her children and grand-children and driving around in her 1984 Trans Am "Hot Rod." She had a sense of humor that was contagious and could easily get everyone riled up with her silly threats of "You want one of these?"

Kathy is survived by her husband of 50 years, Jim Finken of Saugerties, three daughters, Joyce (Charlie) Shoemaker of Lake Katrine, Michelle (Joseph) Gonzalez of St. Augustine, Florida and Amanda (Fiance William) Finken of Saugerties, and three sons, Clinton (Kristen) Finken of Palm Coast, Florida, Matthew (Fiance Erin) Finken of West Virginia, and Michael (fiance Kristine) Finken of Saugerties, twenty grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, six brothers, Howard A. Whittaker of Kingston, Kenneth H. Whittaker of Kingston, Larry J. Whittaker of Rosendale, Edward W. Whittaker of Saugerties, Allan P. Whittaker of Florida, and Frank C. Whittaker of Kingston; one sister, Lorraine F. Stockwell of Florida.

In addition to her parents, she is also predeceased by a brother, William Henry Whittaker (2001).

The family has entrusted the Gilpatric-VanVliet Funeral Home, 339 Broadway, Ulster Park, Town of Esopus, with the care and cremation service arrangements for Katherine.

The family will receive friends at the Gilpatric-VanVliet Funeral Home, 339 Broadway, Ulster Park, Town of Esopus, on Monday, October 14, 2019 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

Cremation will follow at Wiltwyck Crematory which is is private at the discretion of the family.

In lieu of fresh flowers, the family suggests indoor plants for loved ones to take home and nurture in memory of Kathy, or a contribution to your favorite charity in memory of Kathy.

Dear Jim and all 6 of Kathy’s wonderful children, I’m so very sorry about the loss of your dear wife and mother. She will be missed so much by all of you but left so many great memories and love filled times for you to look back on. She was a wonderful sister in law to me and I’m glad I got to spend time with her in June. God bless you all and give you strength to get through this difficult time. I’m sorry I couldn’t be there today but I’m with you in spirit. Love to all, Kaye
