Obituary for Harry L. "Skip" Short Jr.

Harry L. "Skip" Short Jr.,74, of Orchard St, Kingston, formerly of Lindorf St., Ulster Park, died Sunday, December 12th, 2021 at HealthAlliance Hospital following a battle with renal kidney failure.

He was born in Kingston, N.Y. on May 23rd, 1947, a son of the late Harry L. Short, Sr. and Nellie (VanWagenen) Short.

He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Marines during the Vietnam War, honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant. He was a life member and past Commander of Joyce-Schirick VFW Post 1386, a member of American Legion Post 150, and of the Northeast USA Vietnam Veterans Reunion Association.

Harry was employed with Central Hudson in Kingston for over 36 years, retiring in 2005 as chief gas mechanic.

He enjoyed fishing and loved camping with his friends, especially at the Hideaway in Phoenicia.

Harry is survived by his wife of 22 years, Patricia (Lane) Short, one sister, Carol A. Werner of Conway, SC, and one brother, Albert H. (Barbara) Short of Florida. Nine nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by a previous wife, Jessie M. Day (1998).

The family will receive friends at the Gilpatric-VanVliet Funeral Home, 339 Broadway, Ulster Park, on Thursday, December 16, 2021, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

The service will begin at 11:00 am on Friday, December 17th, 2021 at the funeral home, Rev. Charles J. Blauvelt will officiate. Friends will also be received prior to the service from 9:30 am to 11:00 am. Burial with military honors by Joyce-Schirick VFW Post 1386 Honor Huard will follow at Montrepose Cemetery. Per family directives, masks are required for all visitors in the funeral home.
