Harry Ennist "Hype"  Giles Jr.
Harry Ennist "Hype" Giles Jr., 91, of Salem Street, Port Ewen passed away at home while in the comforting presence of his family on Monday, October 2, 2017 following a courageous battle with cancer.

Hype was born in Kingston, NY on June 13th, 1926, a son of late Harry E. Sr. and Lillian (Flemming) Giles.

A proud veteran of the US Marine Corps stationed in Okinawa during the end of WW II, he was past commander and life member of Joyce-Schirick VFW Post 1386, and a dedicated member of the Post 1386 Honor Guard, where he participated in countless funerals for deceased veterans.

In 1953, he married the love of his life, Dorothy M (Brandt) Giles, who died May 14, 2015.

In the 1960's, he was employed as a auto mechanic for various auto dealerships in the local Kingston area, and as a school bus driver for Chappy's Taxi, Port Ewen. He retired from NY Telephone in 1991, after 23 years of service.

He was past commodore and life member of the Kingston Powerboat Assoc., life member and Past Master of Kingston Masonic Lodge #10 F&A.M., Past Assistant Grand Lecturer of the Grand Lodge of NY, Past District Deputy of the Greene Ulster District, 32nd Degree Mason of the Valley of Albany, member of the Cyprus Shrine and Mystic Shrine of Albany, member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, member of both the Saugerties and the Wittenberg Gun Clubs, member of the Marine Night Fighter Association, and a member of the Catskill Mountain Riders motorcycle club.

He loved golfing, traveling, hunting and riding his Harley, and donating his time to the Wednesday morning men's breakfast at the Trinity Lutheran Church. Most of all, he enjoyed sharing stories with his vast array of friends and family.

He is survived by his children: JoEllen (Jody) Zaborski, and her husband Gary, of Saugerties, Harry E. Giles, III of Saugerties and his partner Kathleen Lang of Kingston, Peg Morano of Ulster Park, and Wendy Giles, and her companion David Longendyke, of Port Ewen, five grandchildren, Gary Zaborski, William and Harry Giles IV, Lindsey and Vincent Morano III.

In addition to his wife, he is also predeceased by his sister, Elizabeth Keller.

The funeral will be held 10:00 am Friday at the Gilpatric-VanVliet Funeral Home, 339 Broadway, Ulster Park, Town of Esopus, Rev. Justin Johnson, celebrant. Burial with military honors by Joyce-Schirick VFW Post 1386 Honor Guard will follow at Montrepose Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, October 5th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
