Obituary for Dorothy E. "Dottie" Mains

Dorothy E. "Dottie" Mains, 86, of Riverview Court, Ulster Park passed away on Saturday, April 17th, 2021 at HealthAlliance Hospital, Broadway Campus.

She was born in Middletown, NY, on June 29th, 1934, a daughter of the late Roy and Catherine (Schill) Vaughan.

A lifelong resident of Port Ewen, on May 21, 1960, she married Clark H. Mains who passed away March 16, 2013, following 52 years of marriage.

Following graduation from nursing school, Dottie was employed as a registered nurse in the operating room department of the Kingston Hospital for over 30 years, some of which she proudly served as head nurse.

Dottie was a den mother for Cub Scouts Troop 26. She loved dogs and enjoyed taking them for daily walks. She also liked camping, vacationing in Maine in the summer, and in the winter, vacationing in Florida.

Dottie was an avid sports fan who enjoyed attending her children and her grandchildren's sporting events. She also enjoyed gardening, especially flowers. Most of all she loved her family, especially her grandchildren Thomas and Joseph.

Dottie is survived by one daughter, Cynthia L. Mains of Port Ewen, two sons, Clark R. "Bucky" Mains, and his wife Kimberly, of Port Ewen, Doug Mains of Port Ewen, and his companion Jacqueline Adams of Millbrook, NY, and grandchildren, Thomas and Joseph Mains, both of Port Ewen. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is predeceased by one brother, Edwin Vaughan, one half-sister, Gwen Mulqueen, and one half-brother, Jack Vaughan.

The Mains family will receive friends at the Gilpatric-VanVliet Funeral Home, 339 Broadway, Ulster Park, Town of Esopus, on Thursday, April 22, 2021, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

The funeral service, officiated by the Rev. Dr. David M. Brechter, will be held privately at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery, which will be open to the public, on Friday, April 23, 2021 at 1:00 pm.
