Obituary for Andrew S Keane

Andrew S. Keane,72, of Genesee Ave., Lake Katrine, NY, passed away while in the comforting presence of his family on Monday, October 14th, 2019, at Green Meadows Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Catskill.

Andy was born in Detroit, Michigan on March 27th, 1947, a son of the late Daniel and Theresa (Smetana) Keane.

A veteran of the US Marine Corp during the Vietnam War, he was a member of Joyce-Schirick VFW Post 1386 Honor Guard, lifetime member of both the Disabled American Veterans and Vietnam Veterans, member of Saugerties VFW Post 5034, Saugerties American Legion Post 72, and Ulster Detachment Marine Corps League.

He was employed as a Security Officer for NYS Corrections for over 19 years. He also served as a supervisor of Security Services with the NYS Capitol Police.

He enjoyed motorcycles and belonged to the Veterans of Vietnam of America Motorcycle Club.

Andy is survived by loving family, Charles W. Elmendorf (Debra) of Glasco, Richard V. (Phyllis) Elmendorf of Lake Katrine, Betty Connelly of Kingston, and dear friends Bert "Dutch" (Mary) Van Demark of Glasco, Jimmy Miller of California, and Pat Cabana of Glasco. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his wife, Catherine M. Keane (2013), brother-in-law, Robert "RIP" Elmendorf, and brother-in-law, John Williams (1981).

The family will receive friends at the Gilpatric-VanVliet Funeral Home, 339 Broadway, Ulster Park on Thursday, October 17, 2019 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

The procession will form 9:45 am, Friday, October 18, 2019 from the funeral home, thence to The Villa St. Joseph Chapel, 43 Spaulding Lane, Saugerties, where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Rev. Frank Guzman will officiate. Burial with Military Honors by Joyce-Schirick VFW Post 1386 Honor Guard at St. Mary's Cemetery, Kingston will follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Andy's memory to:

I’ll always remember when cousin Andy was about 12 years old at Grandma Smetana’s in Granville when he went to Scarlotta’s store with a dollar and bought 100 pieces of bubble gum then shared them all with the younger cousins at Aunt Marys cottage on Lake St. Catherine.
